Miss J Alexander is considering a return to runway coaching in the future

The former catwalk coach on America's Next Top Model recently revealed he experienced a stroke in 2022, which left him unable to walk

Alexander said a good runway performance should "allow the clothes to move" — and it may not be limited to just walking

Miss J Alexander is eyeing a runway return.

The former runway coach on America's Next Top Model, 67, opened up about how teaching models to work the catwalk may look different for him in the future. Alexander's comments come weeks after the debut of Reality Check: America's Next Top Model's third episode, on which he revealed he experienced a stroke in 2022 that left him unable to walk.

Alexander told The New York Times that using a wheelchair and cane has impacted how he views a good runway walk. The motion should, ideally, "allow the clothes to move," he said. In many cases, that means walking — but Alexander offered up another option for consideration.

"At the same time, in wheelchairs, you could get a good sense of flowing and movement as long as your dress doesn't get caught up in the wheels," he said.

"Will I teach girls in wheelchairs?" he continued. "Maybe."

Alexander also told the outlet that a quality performance insists on the model adding their own personality to the basics, which Alexander teaches. "Make it your own, make it come alive," he said. "You're carrying the clothes."

The runway coach spoke candidly about his stroke in the docuseries' third episode. He shared that he spent five weeks in the hospital, in a coma, and was unable to walk or talk. "I thought to myself, what was I going to do?" he said on the episode, adding, "I'm not ashamed to say that I cried."

Following the revelation, Alexander's friend Steven Grossman created a GoFundMe page to benefit Alexander's ongoing medical care.

In the post's description, Grossman said Alexander also spent a year and a half in a rehabilitation center, where he wasn't able to use much of his voice or body. During that time, he also experienced mini-strokes and seizures and was hospitalized four more times.

"For the past three years, Miss J. has been bravely fighting his way back and struggling to live independently," Grossman wrote in the description. "He is currently confined to a wheelchair stemming from what we hope is only temporary paralysis and his right arm remains immobile."
