Ferris Bueller's Day Off stars Ben Stein and Alan Ruck are back together 40 years after the beloved film hit theaters.
Ruck, 69, played Ferris Bueller's incredible sidekick, Cameron Frye, in the iconic 1986 film. While that was the jumping point for his career, his talents have grown tremendously since then, landing him important roles on shows ranging from Spin City to Succession. Stein, 81, had a long history as a speechwriter for presidents like Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford before he ever dipped into the entertainment realm. But after Ferris, he became a frequent face on television, starring on the hit Comedy Central game show, Win Ben Stein's Money, alongside Jimmy Kimmelfrom 1997 to 2003.
This week, Stein and Ruck reunited for a screening of the iconic John Hughes film during the 2026 TCM Classic Film Festival at TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, California. With four decades that have passed, it's great to see they've held onto their friendship.

Ben Stein's Role in Ferris Bueller
If you've ever heard anyone drone on, saying "Bueller? Bueller?" then you're well aware of Stein's role in the iconic film as a monotone economics teacher, wondering why Ferris isn't in class. If you need a quick refresher, here's Stein's most famous scene in the film. Don't miss a young Kristy Swanson sharing her infamous line of mistaken gossip:
"My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night," she explains to Stein.
How Did Ben Stein End Up in Ferris Bueller's Day Off?
Last year, Stein opened up to Entertainment Tonight about how he ended up with a role in the movie. He was visiting the set with a producer friend, and director Hughes noticed he had "a really, really funny voice." He asked Stein to do a little role off-camera, taking attendance of the students. Later, he was told to just go make something up on camera, but he gave the lecture on economics, which cracked up the cast and crew. It was so successful that it was extended and became a legendary scene in the movie.
Stein went home and told his wife he'd just had the best day of his life, and it kicked off his acting career.
