The Brady Bunch star Eve Plumb had a special connection to Davy Jones before the Monkees singer guest-starred on the sitcom.
A fan-favorite 1971 episode featured Marcia (Maureen McCormick) desperately trying to book Jones for her high school prom.
In reality, Plumb — who played Marcia's younger TV sister — had already met the pop star through her dad.
Marcia Brady may have gotten her big moment with Davy Jones, but her little sister got there first.
Eve Plumb, who starred as dramatic Brady middle child Jan Brady, recently revealed that she had a special connection to the Monkees' singer Davy Jones long before his cameo appearance on The Brady Bunch.
Last month, the actress paid a visit to the Pop Culture Preservation Society podcast, where the conversation at one point became a discussion of the hosts' favorite episodes of the show. The trio, Carolyn Cochrane, Kristin Nilsen and Michelle Newman, quickly called out, 1971's "Getting Davy Jones" as a contender, prompting Plumb to reveal that she already knew Jones before the episode was filmed.
"In real life, my father had signed the Monkees to RCA [Records] in his job," revealed Plumb, the daughter of record producer Neely Plumb.

"I would go and listen to the Monkees record and Davy Jones used to say, 'Well, I'm going to marry you when you grow up,'" Plumb told the hosts.
She acknowledged that while it seemed innocent enough at the time, such a remark wouldn't land the same these days. "So he's saying that to a 10-, 12-year-old kid, which now we just don't do," she said. "It's just too creepy now, but it was really fine then."
When asked if she really thought she'd have a shot at marrying the pop-rock musician, Plumb laughed, "You know, it sort of seemed like a possibility. Why not?"
The episode that marked Jones' cameo involved the oldest Brady sister, Marcia (Maureen McCormick), trying to get the Monkees musician to perform at her school's junior prom. As the president of his local fan club, Marcia boasts to her friends that she can get Davy to come — then spends days trying to make that dream come true. After an appeal to his manager, she succeeds.

Funnily enough, Jan is the one to plant an idea in Marcia's head, after showing her a newspaper item about Davy performing in their hometown. So it's extra ironic that Plumb — who played the quintessential middle sibling, constantly jealous of Marica — was the one with the real-life connection to the Monkees.
Plumb further revealed that her dad's job allowed her to forge connections with other big stars of the era.

"He signed Jefferson Airplane too," she shared, adding, "He was a very hip dad, on top of all the other great things about him."

As for Plumb's favorite episodes of the show, the actress — who was 11 when she began her role as Jan — admitted that she has a soft spot for episodes that let the cast shoot on location.
"I always like the ones where we traveled," Plumb shared. "The Hawaii episodes, getting to go places, getting to go to the Grand Canyon, was great."
She explained, "Because for me, it’s not necessarily the episode that I watch, it was the episode that I filmed. So for me, the Grand Canyon was fun. For me, Hawaii was fun."
