CNN NewsNight host Abby Phillip will stick with CNN for several more years after signing a new contract with the network, per recent reports.

As first reported by Variety, a source claims that Phillip recently renewed her deal to remain at the network. The 37-year-old reporter joined CNN in 2017 and currently anchors NewsNight, the roundtable political debate show that often produces viral social media clips. In addition, she hosts Table for Five on Saturday mornings and the streaming series Confessions and Obsessions.

Before joining CNN, Phillip worked for Politico covering the Obama White House before joining The Washington Post as a national political reporter. She later joined ABC News as a digital reporter covering politics.

After joining CNN, she covered the Trump administration as a reporter and co-moderated the Democratic debate of the 2020 Democratic Party presidential primaries. She was named the new anchor of the weekend edition of Inside Politics in 2021 before a programming overhaul in 2023 saw her moved to the 10 pm slot to host NewsNight.

Phillip’s new contract marks the last of the big three CNN reporters to be locked down ahead of Warner Bros. Discovery’s (the network’s parent company) merger with Paramount Skydance. Anderson Cooper, who anchors Anderson Cooper 360 at 8 pm on CNN, renewed terms last year, and Variety also reports that The Source anchor Kaitlan Collins has a few more years left on her contract.

There have been reports of unease behind the scenes at CNN ahead of the upcoming merger. Some of those concerns stem from how Paramount CEO David Ellison has handled CBS News, including appointing Bari Weiss as the network’s editor-in-chief last October. During Weiss’ short tenure, CBS News has seen staff exits, firings, and even stories pulled.

Phillip has not publicly commented on the contract renewal, and CNN told Variety that the network does not comment on talent contracts.
