Once again, a giant shining moon will hover low in the sky over Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward, this time as the centerpiece of a new three-day festival.
The Museum of the Moon, artist Luke Jerram's world-traveling installation, will return to Catalano Square Aug. 7-9 as part of the new Third Ward Moon Festival, the Historic Third Ward Association announced in a statement.
Jerram's moon first rose here in 2019 via a collaboration between the association and Joy Engine (then known as Black Box Fund). The 23-foot illuminated sculpture, based on NASA imaging, was suspended from cranes above Catalano Square. It visited Milwaukee in 2019 to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.

The new free festival will take place in Catalano Square and on Menomonee Street and Broadway, according to the association's statement. It will include music, dance, art, fashion and family activities.
The association said a festival entertainment schedule and additional details will be announced in the coming weeks.
