I don’t know Taylor Swift personally, but I do know the unique and specific struggle that is attempting (and failing) to grow out your bangs. After photos of Swift at a wedding in England emerged over the weekend, fans took to comment sections to once again analyze her hair—it was shorter by several inches, nearly a lob, and her bangs were swept aside in a deep part that looked, at least to me, like a dead giveaway for the first step of a grow-out. New hair for a newlywed!
A little backstory: Swift has had bangs since 2012. She first cut them for a Vogue photo shoot and wore them throughout the Red era and into 1989. She had her biggest hair changes in the 1989 and Reputation eras. First, a short and blunt bob with side-swept bangs. Then she dyed it platinum for the 2016 Met Gala—an era her fans call “Bleachella.” She continued to bleach and dip-dye her hair throughout the Lover album rollout, before adopting her natural blond-brown hair color and curlier texture during the pandemic and beyond.

But the one thing that has stayed consistent throughout all these albums and eras is the bangs; she’s kept them alive in one way or another. The signs that Swift may want to grow them out go back at least to 2023, when she tucked them away for the premiere of Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé. Her bangs have taken on various lengths since then but have been on the longer side recently. In June 2026 she styled her bangs in a deep side part across her forehead at the Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Award Gala. And now, it seems, just weeks after her wedding, she’s ready to enter a new hair era.

Growing out your bangs sucks, no matter how many billions you have. There’s just no “best” way to do it. Sweeping your bangs to the side is usually the first step, and one of the hardest to get through. To help, you can secure them with a cute barrette or accessory à la Margot Tenenbaum. Then, once your bangs are about as long as your jawline, you have a decision to make. You can either cut your hair short to try and even things out, add extensions, or you can get layers to help better blend the bangs in with the rest of your head. If you stick with it and keep your hair healthy, growing out your bangs can take about a year.

That is why I have only successfully done it one time … at the age of seven. Every other time I have tried, I have given up—my hair just looked too awkward, bulky, and strange. So I applaud Swift for starting her bang-growing journey, if that’s what she’s doing. It’s a long road ahead, but she’s certainly got the resources and glam team to make it as painless as possible.
