The EFL season might have kicked off last weekend, and we’re just days away from the Premier League season getting underway, but one striker is still without a club and being linked with moves across the world.

Former England forward Jamie Vardy is looking for a new club after leaving Italian side Cremonese at the end of last season, having scored seven goals in 29 Serie A appearances.

The 39-year-old, who won 26 England caps, is now looking for his next club, and it appears that nowhere is off the table.

Could Vardy become a Hammer?

The current favourites to sign the Premier League winning striker are West Ham United, as they bid to return to the top-flight at the first attempt following their relegation in May.

The Hammers are 8/15 with the football betting sites to secure Vardy’s signature, and after letting slip a 2-0 lead in their opening game against Burnley, they came away with just a point from Turf Moor.

They have lost forwards Callum Wilson, Crysencio Summerville, and Callum Marshall since the end of the season, so there is definitely space in the squad for another striker, and the fact Vardy is available for free and has such a proven record means they would be foolish not to consider a move.

As would newly promoted Premier League sides Ipswich Town and Hull City, who would both benefit from his experience.

Vardy, who has 145 Premier League goals and a further 48 assists, would relish the chance to add to that tally, but there are plenty of other options available to him.

Vardy next club odds: South America or MLS?

Sao Paolo is the latest club to be linked with a move for the former Sheffield Wednesday and Fleetwood striker, with betting sites offering 7/2 on a move to the six-time Serie A champions, or 5/2 on a move to any South American side.

The Brazilian outfit has started the new season without a win from their first six games, so they certainly need reinforcements, and they already have former Premier League stars Lucas Moura and Cedric Soares in the side.

The club are believed to have already made contact with Vardy, but whether he is prepared to go halfway round the world for a new adventure remains to be seen, when he still has plenty of new challenges closer to home.

The MLS is another potential destination, with at least one club being linked with a move. Vardy also has business interests in the US, after becoming a co-owner of the Rochester New York FC football team back in 2021.

Will he opt for a fairytale ending?

One move that will no doubt always be on the table would be a return to his boyhood club Sheffield Wednesday.

He was released from Hillsborough as a 16-year-old, and it then took nine years for him to make it to league football.

He grew up in the Hillsborough area of Sheffield as an Owls fan, so could a move to the League One side complete Vardy’s full-circle moment? It’s a 4/1 chance on betting apps.
