- Dree Hemingway revealed that she wrote a letter to Daryl Hannah, who she portrays in *Love Story*, but hasn't heard back.

- "It was really just a love note to her saying how much I admired her, how much I’ve admired her as an actress and a woman, prior to even being cast as Daryl," Hemingway told *Nylon*.

- *Love Story *airs on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on FX and is available to stream the following day on Hulu.

Dree Hemingway's note to Daryl Hannah was one of admiration.

In an interview with *Nylon** *published on March 4, the actress said that she had written to the real-life figure behind her *Love Story *character. Hannah dated series subject John F. Kennedy Jr. for several years before he dated and eventually married Carolyn Bessette.

"It was really just a love note to her saying how much I admired her, how much I've admired her as an actress and a woman, prior to even being cast as Daryl," Hemingway said of the letter. "How much I really just fell in love with her as a human being. I watched interviews and that feeling of really spending time with somebody you've never spent time with, but researching."

"That was really the note, and just not like 'Hey, I want to meet you or talk to you.' Just, like, 'It was really an honor of my lifetime to be able to portray you and research you.'"

Hemingway said that though she "would have loved to directly have spoken to her," she had "nerves" when it came to any direct contact. "I also didn’t want to intrude in any way. I didn’t want to make her feel awkward if that were something that she didn’t want to do or something."

At the time of the interview, the *Splash *star hadn't responded. "But that’s okay," Hemingway admitted. "It was not the expectation. It was more so just like 'I really appreciate you. I admire you as a person, a philanthropist, an actress.' I wasn’t trying to have her communicate back."

"I also think [she needs] her own time," continued Hemingway. "The show’s just come out; I'm sure there’s a lot to digest there and stuff like that."

Speaking with *Nylon*, Hemingway emphasized that the Ryan Murphy-produced limited series is a "dramatization." "We are not exactly portraying her or how something went down. There's a fiction involved in all of this. With any person that you loved and you were dating, I'm sure it's a hard thing. So, I think that it's nice to respect that and her."

The day after the interview was published, a scathing editorial by Hannah appeared in the *New York Times*,* *calling her portrayal in *Love Story* inaccurate. "A real, living person is not a narrative device," she wrote.

"It's appalling to me that I even have to defend myself against a television show," Hannah continued. "These are not creative embellishments of personality. They are assertions about conduct — and they are false."**
