Breakfast in bed for Mother's Day looks awesome and heartfelt in the movies.
But in real life, it can be a little difficult to execute, especially if young hands are involved.
And if the toast gets burned, you know she's going to be thinking of that chicken and waffles or avocado toast from her favorite place.
Maybe keep the mom coupons, but make plans to take her out for Mother's Day, Sunday, May 10, at a great brunch place.
Here are five of my favorite brunch places in El Paso.
When is Mother's Day this year?
Mother's Day is on Sunday, May 10. Mexican Mother's Day and American Mother's Day fall on the same date this year. In Mexico, Mother's Day is always celebrated on May 10.
Ambar inside the Plaza Hotel has a good variety of breakfast favorites in its brunch buffet on Saturdays and Sundays.Ambar
Any mom who likes to have options will enjoy the expansive brunch offered at Ambar inside the Plaza Hotel, 106 W Mills Ave. in Downtown El Paso. Come casual or dress up. There's live music, but not too loud.
The brunch buffet features two tables with warming trays of all the traditional breakfast favorites, from eggs, bacon, sausage and potatoes to French toast, green chile enchiladas and braised beef.
The omelet station is great for customizing your eggs and adding your favorite ingredients, which the server will be happy to bring to your table. They also have menudo ready, a salad and fruit station and, of course, a delectable dessert station.

For dessert, I recommend the mini tarts, especially the blueberry and raspberry-topped ones and the moist chocolate sprinkle cupcakes. It pairs well with a nice hot coffee to finish off a great meal.
Brunch is available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Reservations are recommended. For Mother's Day, they are including a make-a-bouquet table. Cost is $65 per adult, 12 and up, excluding tax and gratuity. Kids ages 6-11 pay $32.50. Ages 5 and under are free.
Amar
If you're looking for a place that is special like mom, Amar, a Peruvian and Mexican restaurant, at 3100 N. Mesa St., is a nice choice. It has a pretty, calming ambiance that suits special occasions. Mom can start her day with a brunch cocktail, like an Aperol Spritz Sangria or a mimosa.
Amar is a great place to take mom for Mother's Day. The brunch menu is selective and creative such as the Desayuno Andino, $17, which are eggs and Peruvian house made smoky-flavored chorizo, over perfectly seasoned potatoes with queso fresco and handmade corn tortillas.
And then peruse the brunch menu for diverse and creative dishes, including Desayuno Andino, featuring eggs and Peruvian house-made, smoky-flavored chorizo over perfectly seasoned potatoes with queso fresco and handmade corn tortillas. There are also Japanese Peruvian pancakes, various chilaquiles and beef tenderloin dishes.
For those watching their carbs, order the protein waffles ($15), which are made with almond flour and topped with berries and monk fruit maple syrup.

If there is still room for dessert, the in-house-made avocado ice cream with a dark chocolate shell (made to look like a half avocado) is a good finish. The ice cream is creamy and reminiscent of green matcha in its earthy richness, balanced by the sweetness of a Nutella brownie bite.
Brunch is offered daily from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Salt + Honey Bakery and Cafe
Another favorite place for moms celebrating each other is Salt & Honey Bakery and Cafe, 1125 Texas Ave.
The restaurant offers traditional brunch favorites like avocado toast with eggs, chicken and waffles and French toast. But it also has more intriguing dishes like Michelada-braised brisket tacos and pancakes topped with a nutty baklava streusel and house-spiced honey.
Among friends, you can make it an adventurous dining experience by having everyone order something different and then share a bite.
Salt + Honey Bakery and Cafe, at 1125 Texas Ave., offers a diverse menu including a Shawarma Salad, a Middle Eastern-spiced chicken with veggies. ($16).Junction Brunch House
The Junction Brunch House, at 3001 Pershing Drive, has a casual vibe and $3 mimosas waiting for moms on Mother's Day, Sunday. If you're the type of family that puts on a cap and Crocs and heads out the door, this spot will do just fine.
At Junction Brunch House, at 3001 Pershing Drive, try some Southern favorites like some crunchy fried chicken and waffles with a chipotle butter.
Try some Southern favorites like some crunchy fried chicken and waffles with a chipotle butter, or biscuits, green chile, and sausage gravy served with two scrambled eggs. And add some hot sauce.
Make reservations online to ensure a table.
The Grove Brunch Cafe
The Grove Brunch Cafe made an impression on me since it first opened in 2019 at 7470 Cimarron Market on the West Side. Since then, it has expanded with two more locations: 9800 Gateway Blvd. North, and 12040 Tierra Este Road on the East Side.
With brunch in the name, you know The Grove has quite the selection of tasty options. Among my favorites has been the green chilaquiles, with layers of flavor including queso fresco drizzled on top, cilantro, two fried eggs and some sour cream.
The Eggs Benedict are made with braised pork belly and a side of potatoes. The green chile chilaquiles are another favorite item to order for breakfast.
They also have a variety of skillet breakfasts, refreshing mimosas and craft cocktails.
And with indoor and outdoor patio seating, you can enjoy your cocktail or latte while your food is made to order.
