Connie Britton remembers Hayden Panettiere after the death of her former Nashville co-star at 36. Britton shared a deeply personal tribute filled with photos from their years on the ABC drama. The message focused on the light Britton saw in Panettiere, while their shared history on Nashville made the tribute especially poignant.

Connie Britton called her former co-star someone who was ā€œbursting with brillianceā€

Britton posted a carousel of photos on Instagram on Aug. 17, one day after Panettiere’s death. The images looked back at their time together on Nashville, including a shot of the pair holding hands as their characters.

ā€œThis was Hayden. Bursting with brilliance, shining so bright. I have no words for this sad song. Just heartbreak. I love you girl. Sleep easy now,ā€ Britton wrote. She described Panettiere as someone who shined brightly before ending the message with a loving farewell.

Britton played country star Rayna Jaymes opposite Panettiere’s Juliette Barnes for five seasons of Nashville. Their characters often clashed on-screen, but their working relationship carried its own complicated history.

Earlier this year, Panettiere spoke candidly about feeling uncomfortable with their early on-set dynamic. She worried Britton might think she was trying to compete after Juliette’s popularity grew. However, Panettiere also called Britton ā€œamazingā€ and ā€œso supportive.ā€

Panettiere died on Aug. 16 at age 36. Her representative confirmed her death to ABC News, while her family asked for privacy. Authorities have not announced an official cause of death.

Britton is among several Hollywood friends and former co-stars who have honored Panettiere since the news broke. Viola Davis, David Arquette, Selma Blair, and others also shared messages remembering her talent and personality.

For Nashville fans, Britton’s tribute carries particular weight. Rayna and Juliette helped define the series, while Panettiere’s performance became one of the most recognizable parts of the show.

Britton’s message kept the focus on the person she remembered behind the role. Her final words made that grief clear without saying much more.
