A recent father-son meeting has brought Prince Harry’s past remarks about King Charles back into focus. The pair are said to have reunited last month after a prolonged period of limited contact.

Their latest encounter comes years after Harry detailed a strained emotional dynamic with his father in his memoir, “Spare.” His account has now resurfaced as speculation mounts over whether the meeting could mark a turning point in their relationship.

Prince Harry claimed King Charles struggled to communicate with him in ‘Spare’

Long before the reunion, Prince Harry had already offered his version of why his relationship with King Charles was complicated. In “Spare,” he portrayed their bond as one where affection and emotion were not always expressed openly.

As reported by Hello Magazine, Harry wrote that he and his father “mostly coexisted.” He also claimed Charles had “trouble communicating” and “trouble listening,” suggesting that their conversations often lacked the emotional connection he wanted.

One memory from the memoir appeared to capture that dynamic particularly well. Prince Harry recalled finding letters from Charles on his pillow after lengthy family dinners. The notes would tell him how proud his father was of his achievements. Yet, according to Harry, the gesture left him wondering why Charles had not simply said those things while they were sitting together.

The Duke also made a separate claim about physical affection. He alleged that Charles “didn’t hug” him and added that the monarch was “not quite ready for parenthood.” In his words, “Single parenthood? Pa was never made for that.”

Still, those painful recollections have not stopped Prince Harry from expressing a desire to repair the relationship. In a 2025 BBC interview, Harry spoke openly about wanting peace within his family. He said he would “love reconciliation” and suggested there was little value in continuing the conflict.

That wish for peace has gained new relevance following the pair’s July reunion. During his latest UK visit, Harry reportedly travelled to Charles’ Gloucestershire home. Queen Camilla was also said to have been there, while Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, joined the private gathering. The meeting was understood to have lasted roughly an hour.
