Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead Sunday afternoon, December 14, in their Los Angeles home in what authorities are investigating as an apparent homicide, multiple outlets report. The couple was reportedly discovered by their daughter, Romy Reiner,according to People.
Los Angeles Fire Department officials responded to a call around 3:30 p.m. local time on Sunday, Dec. 14, after reports of an emergency at the Brentwood residence. First responders arrived to find an adult man and woman deceased inside the home. The victims were later identified as Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 68.
The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division is investigating the deaths. Law enforcement officials have not released additional details regarding the circumstances or motive, and the investigation remains ongoing, but sources told People that their son Nick is the alleged perpetrator.

The family issued a statement (per Variety) that reads, "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time."
According to People, it was the couple’s daughter Romy who found her parents inside the home. The news has sent shockwaves through Hollywood and beyond, given Rob Reiner’s decades-long career as an actor, director, and producer, and the family’s public profile.
The tragedy comes just weeks after Romy publicly shared moments from a Thanksgiving vacation spent with her father. On Instagram, she posted videos and photos of the two swimming together in the ocean, offering a glimpse into what appeared to be a close and joyful relationship.

Rob Reiner rose to fame portraying Mike “Meathead” Stivic on Norman Lear’s groundbreaking sitcomAll in the Family. He later became one of Hollywood’s most respected directors, helming films such as This Is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, Misery, and A Few Good Men.
He met Michele Singer Reiner while directing When Harry Met Sally…. The two married in 1989 and went on to have three children together, including Romy. Reiner has one child, Tracy, from his first marriage, to Laverne & Shirley star Penny Marshall, who died in 2018, and then children Jake, Nick and Romy from his marriage to Michele.
