Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday, December 14. The Reiner family issued a statement shortly after the devastating news broke.

"It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time," the statement read, according to Variety.

The Los Angeles Fire Department was called to the home around 3:30 p.m. local time. After discovering the deceased bodies, LAFD called in the Los Angeles Police Department.

LAPD's Robbery-Homicide Division is leading the investigation.

According to TMZ, the couple "suffered lacerations consistent with a knife," though the investigation remains ongoing.

People later reported that the couple was killed by their son Nick. Law enforcement has yet to confirm the report.

In addition to Nick, the couple shared son Jake and daughter Romy. The A Few Good Men director was also father to daughter Tracy, whom he shared with late ex-wife Penny Marshall.

Romy reportedly discovered her parents' bodies, according to People.

Rob and Michele met while he was filming his beloved rom-com When Harry Met Sally in the late 1980s. They married in 1989, the same year the film was released.

"I’d been married for ten years. I’d been single for ten years, and I couldn’t figure out how I was ever going to be with anybody," Reiner said in an interview with Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace on CNN. "That gave birth to When Harry Met Sally. I hadn’t met anybody, so it was going to be the two of them seeing each other after years, talking, and then walking away from each other."

He continued, "The original ending of the film that we had was that Harry and Sally didn’t get together."

The pair were married for 35 years before their tragic deaths.
