Sebastian Stan says Avengers: Doomsday was filmed in âscattered scenesâ to prevent spoilers among the cast
Stan says he never saw a full script for the film, describing the approach as âa different way of workingâ
He will return as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier in the December release, alongside several other MCU stars
Avengers: Doomsday was shot in a âscatteredâ way so its stars could more easily avoid plot spoilers, according to Sebastian Stan.
Stan, who portrays Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, revealed that he did not look at a full script, just individual scenes, while shooting the starry new Avengers film during an interview with French newspaper Le Journal du Dimanchepublished Tuesday, Aug. 18.
Speaking alongside his Fjord costar Renate Reinsve, the 44-year-old actor told the outlet that while working on the MCU project, âwe didnât have a script.â It is a strategy frequently used by Marvel, at least in part, to avoid sharing spoilers with the media, according to Stan.
âWe were just shooting scattered scenes,â he told Le Journal du Dimanche. âItâs a different way of working, continuous, constantly evolving.â

âThe producers didnât want us to read it in its entirety, to avoid journalists asking us questions,â he added with a laugh. âIâve been following this rule for fifteen years, Iâm used to it.â
The same âruleâ instituted to avoid spoilers applies to his upcoming role as Harvey Dent in a different superhero flick, The Batman: Part II. Stan âalso canât say anything aboutâ director Matt Reevesâ follow-up to the 2022 DC Comics adaptation starring Robert Pattinson as The Caped Crusader, he told the French newspaper.
âThe beauty of this profession also lies in participating in projects of this scale, which I love as a viewer,â he continued. âRight now, Iâm really looking forward to seeing The Odyssey, by Christopher Nolan; it looks amazing.â
Elsewhere in the same chat alongside Reinsve, 38, Stan also shared that he has a lot of love for fans of his work in the MCU, recalling a recent moment in which a friend said he felt âsorry for me for attracting a child and teenage audience.â

âHowever, I cherish the Bucky Barnes fans, who will grow old alongside me,â Stan told Le Journal du Dimanche. âI know what I owe to that superhero. I myself feel like I grew up admiring Leonardo DiCaprio on screen.â
Stan first appeared in the MCU as Bucky in 2011âs Captain America: The First Avenger, alongside Chris Evans as Captain America/Steve Rogers, and last starred in 2025âs Thunderbolts*. In 2021, he led Marvelâs TV show The Falcon and the Winter Soldier alongside Anthony Mackie.

In Doomsday, Evans, 45, will reprise his role as Steve Rogers/Captain America seven years after last appearing in the MCU in 2019âs Avengers: Endgame. From Thunderbolts*, meanwhile, the following actors are expected to appear alongside Stan: Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Hannah John-Kamen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Lewis Pullman.

Evans recently teased his âbrutalâ appearance in Doomsday earlier this month. âThe Russos love beating up Steve Rogers,â Evans said at a Q&A at the Fan Expo Boston of Anthony and Joe Russo, who directed Doomsday. âTheir favorite thing to do is to just beat the crap out of him.â
âTo them, thatâs what makes a hero, and thatâs someone who gets punched so many times but still gets up,â Evans continued at the fan event. âSo they keep finding new ways to kick his butt. And this one was brutal.â
Doomsday will also see the return of MCU stars including Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Paul Rudd, Tom Hiddleston, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke and Simu Liu. The massive crossover movie will also see the return of several X-Men: Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn and Kelsey Grammer.
Avengers: Doomsday releases in theaters on Dec. 18.
